Listening party tomorrow Thursday 22nd August - 19:00 UK time - hope you can join us :)
A musician of huge natural talent, her break-out album was in 2021 on the fantastic Cue Dot Records, followed by a slew of incredible releases on labels such as Werra Foxma, Mortality Tables, Dustopian Frequencies, Shady Ridge Records and more - her unique and bewitching take on electronica finding legions of fans all over the UK and beyond.
One Universal Breath takes the quiet details idea and creates something completely immersive, hypnotic and melodically enchanting.
Her masterful grasp of synthesis is on full show from the first second - sparkling leads flutter over ever-undulating pads and heavy sub-weight.
At times perfectly judged percussion drives the tracks along - at others the sense of propulsion is achieved with rhythmic harmonic sequences, beautiful counterpoint showing a profound musicality and the skilful ability to put it to stunning use.
Through the precise balance of repetition and evolution, the album finds itself in a space between ambient and the deepest beat-driven explorations - reminiscent of the original chill-out rooms and bliss-state sunrises, and is in direct lineage to the classics of the genre.
Inspired by Veryan’s practice of Tai Chi and its essential role in helping her cope with tough times, as she says:
The inspiration for this album stems from a particular memory of sitting quietly in a park in Paris shortly after the death of my father. As I continued to battle my feelings of grief and loss, I found myself drawn to a solitary lady practicing Tai Chi under one of the trees. I recall how much comfort and peace it brought me as I watched her carefully and silently perform each move with precision, focus and care and began to appreciate and accept the duality of life – the yin and yang.
This one's for you Dad.
A stunning album of emotion and beauty, I’m so pleased to share it with you. Huge thanks to Veryan for everything, a wonderful addition to the series.
The artwork was made as always influenced by the music and idea behind the album - originating from a photo from Veryan which was then captured with analogue photography and processed here at quiet details studios.
As usual, the album is presented on the physical edition, a custom 6-panel digipack with a separate fine art print too.
Mastered here at quiet details studios.
